Piyush Chawla needs to play for India

October 3rd 2008 23:32

I don't know what is in the mind of the Indian cricket selectors.

Two years ago they introduced Piyush CHawla on the world stage - Australian spin bowling legend saw him and said - he has everything a legspinner needs technically but what really impresses me is his attitude - he is calm when the batsmen are going after him and he is always looking to get them out.

In the most recent match currently being played between Australia and an Indian XI Chawla just clean bowled Australian Captain Ricky Ponting - one of the finest batsmen in the game - with a magnificent wrong 'un that Ponting had no clue about

Yet he is not in the squad for the upcoming test series.

The Indian selectors are erring in not playing this exciting young bowler who is infinitely more gifted than Kumble or Harbhajan (who for all his feistiness is a pretty average cricketer)

Chawla maybe young but he captained the national under 19 side, has shown fight with the bat, has played at international level and was a stand out in the first season of the IPL.

Leaving him out of the Indian national side is a disgrace

Australia's New look cricket side!!!

September 24th 2008 04:26
I know there will be folks in India who will be looking at the Australian cricket team and wondering just who half of them are. This will be the first time the Australian team are in India without the likes of McGrath, Warne, Langer and Gilchrist and some of you will be thinking with so many new faces in the side will they have the same All conquoring auror that has seen sides capitulate psychologically before the series has started.

Personally I think the Australia is ripe for the picking particularly away from home and without the talented Andrew Symonds in the squad. The batting will still have Matthew Hayden, Michael Clarke, Michael 'Mr Cricket' Hussey and Ricky Ponting (with a point to prove as his record in India is dreadful) but the once menacing bowling attack looks vulnerable.

Sure they still have Brett Lee and the ever reliable Stuart Clark. But I think there are still questions over whether Mitchell Johnston is test material and there are four debutant bowlers in the squad including two new spinners - Jason Krejza and Bryce McGain - McGain is particularly interesting in that he is 36 years old (Australia's oldest debutant since Bob Holland back in the mid 80's)

All in all it should be an entralling series in India with many names probably being involved in their last India v Australia contest. In recent times the competition has been fierce and I think Sachin Tendulkar is right on the money when he says that this is now the biggest rivalry in international cricket

DELHI 4/194 (Gambhir 79,Dharwan 68 no)

HYDERABAD 9/182 (Sharma 35, Rao 34, Afridi 33 - Mishra 5/17, Maharoof 2/39)

DELHI wins by 12 runs

An entertaining high scoring game - gotta love that. Set up by the high flyiing Delhi top order who bludgeoned 194 for the loss of just 4 wickets. While Sehwag failed his opening partner and top scorer in this competition Gambhir and middle order dynamo Dharwan both scored big fifties to get the sizeable total on the board.

Chasing the target All of the the Deccan chargers top orer got a start but no one scored more than 35 making the task really hard. The lower order collapsed under some great bowling from Mishra who took 5 for 17 and won the Man of the Match. The Deccan Chargers just needed one of the top order to make a 50 and they would have won this game.

The highly fancied team from Hyderabad now look like definitely missing the finals and have been massively dissappointing in this tournament.

Delhi look really threatening with their menacing top order capable of posting big scores and a bowling line up that takes wickets and limits opposing sides. They are looking good for a finals place
