May 12th 2008 06:05
CHENNAI 4/181 (64 Badrinath, Dhoni 60no, Raina 26 - Sreesanth 2/29)
PUNJAB 9/163 (Marsh 58, Pathan 40, Sarwan 20 - Balaji 5/24, Muralitharan 1/32)
CHENNAI win by 18 runs
This was always going to be an entertaining contest between two of the high flying teams in this competition.
Chennai made a steady 4/181 but the expectation was they would score a lot more with Dhoni in full flight at crease.
He was supported by Badrinath and Raina. They took full toll on the Punjab Bowlers with Sreesanth the best of them.
Kings XI Punjab started well with young West Australian opener Shaun Marsh continuing his great form in the series. He got good support from Sarwan in the middle order. They really missed Sri Lankan wicket keeper batsman Kumar Sangakkara with his rib injury. Late order hitting by Pathan and Chawla got them close but them in the final over...
Laksmipathy Balaji struck with the first hat trick of the competition. He ended with the fabulous figures of 5 for 24 and deservedly took out the player of the match as he bowled Chennai to victory.
So Chennai look like they are almost there in the finals. Hopefully the Kings XI Punjab will join them there so we get more entertaining fun matches like this one.
