May 13th 2008 06:45
KOLKATA 4/204 (Ganguly 91, D.Hussey 57no, Chopra 24 - Vaas 1/36)
HYDERABAD 7/181 (Rao 71no, Sharma 33 - Dinda 3/33, Ganguly 2/25)
KOLKATA wins by 23 runs
An entertaining high scoring game. Kolkata captain and darling of the bengali crowd, Saurav Ganguly played a superb innings. His 91 was the back bone of Kolkata''s sizeable total. He was more than supported with a brilliant little innings of 57 not out by David Hussey whose worth seems to go up and up the longer this competition goes on. The two put on 102 runs in 8 overs.
Again Gilchrist and Sharma played well and got starts and there was a fine late order innings from Rao. But international stars Gibbs and Styris again failed. The Kolkata bowlers held there nerves with Dinda taking 3 wickets and Ganguly who took 2 wickets to go with his 91 with the bat. He took out the man of the match award for his all round effort.
Kolkata are making a charge and some good performances have seen then back in contention for the finals. The star studded Deccan Chargers are struggling big time and find themselves languishing near the bottom of the table.
