Delhi Daredevils Summary

April 10th 2008 04:37

The Delhi Daredevils

Hailing from the capital New Delhi, the Delhi Daredevils have a good solid squad led by the in form daredevil himself Virender Sehwag. This team has a lot of allround capabilities and a very strong top order batting line up. I think the bowling is a bit thin on the ground in terms of specialists.

Opening with Sehwag and AB de Villiers, the Delhi Daredevils will be after the best possible start. I'd expect the sublimely talented Gambhir and Shoab Malik to fill the middle order but from here the batting starts to look a bit thin. They'll be relying a lot on allrounders like Tillakaratne Dilshan and Dinesh Karthik in the middle order so those top order batsman really have to fire.

The bowling also looks a little thinner than some of the other teams in the competition. Mohammed Asif will lead the attack and will be supported by Sri Lankan allrounder Maharoof (maharoof, maharoof is on fire - sorry I couldn't resist it). One of the most fascinating players for observers is fast bowling legend Glen McGrath who officially retired from international cricket last year. He has been lured back into competition by the IPL and his return to the playing field will be keenly observed (let's hope he hasn't lost any of that competitive fire). Another interesting case is Brett Greaves who has not played at international level yet for Australia.

The spin bowling department will be ably led by New Zealand stalwart and Harry Potter lookalike Daniel Vettori who has a fantastic record and is more than handy with the bat down the order. He will be well backed up by Pakistani allrounder Shoab Malik who turns the ball the other way. Dinesh Karthik will probably get the wicket keeping role though AB deVilliers has kept at international level before.

A team that will need a little bit of luck along the way to make a big impact in this competition.

A possible best XI

1. Virender Sehwag
2. AB deVilliers
3. Gautum Gambhir
4. Shoab Malik
5. Dinesh Karthik
6. Tilllakaratne Dilshan
7. Daniel Vettori
8. Farveez Maharoof
9. Brett Greaves
10. Mohammed Asif
11. Glen McGrath.

There you have it we are half way through the teams in the IPL. Please keep following this blog for more player and team details as well as the best summary and analysis of the exciting new competition that will be the IPL.
