GAME 36 - Mumbai Indians v Chennai Super Kings
May 16th 2008 22:59
CHENNAI 6/156 (Badrinath 53, Dhoni 43 - Kulkarni 3/33, Bravo 2/37, Pollock 1/7)
MUMBAI 1/158 (Jayasuria 114no)
MUMBAI wins by 9 wickets with 37 balls to spare
This match marked the first appearance of Indian batting sensation and demi god Sachin Tendulkar. But he was well and truly upstaged by his Mumbai opening partner.
To set the scene, the Chennai Super Kings batted first and made a slightly dissappointing total of 156 for 6. Again Badrinath and Dhoni made runs but there was not enough of a consistant effort.
The Mumbai bowlers did well with Kulkarni picking up wickets but it was the pressure of Pollock's economical spell which cost just 7 runs in 4 overs that caused the wickets at the other end.
So in their chase Mumbai lost Tendulkar for just 12 runs but his opening partner - veteran Sri Lankan dynamo blasted an unbelievable 114 not out off just 48 balls!!! He hit a staggering 11 sixes in what is only the 5th century of the tournament (all by non indians)
He was a no brainer choice for man of the match.
So the early pace setters the Chennai Super Kings seem to be losing form at the wrong time of the season and find themselves dropping back to thrid place.
Mumbai on the other hand have been re-invigorated and are a few wins away from challenging for a spot in the finals
