Piyush Chawla needs to play for India
October 3rd 2008 23:32
I don't know what is in the mind of the Indian cricket selectors.
Two years ago they introduced Piyush CHawla on the world stage - Australian spin bowling legend saw him and said - he has everything a legspinner needs technically but what really impresses me is his attitude - he is calm when the batsmen are going after him and he is always looking to get them out.
In the most recent match currently being played between Australia and an Indian XI Chawla just clean bowled Australian Captain Ricky Ponting - one of the finest batsmen in the game - with a magnificent wrong 'un that Ponting had no clue about
Yet he is not in the squad for the upcoming test series.
The Indian selectors are erring in not playing this exciting young bowler who is infinitely more gifted than Kumble or Harbhajan (who for all his feistiness is a pretty average cricketer)
Chawla maybe young but he captained the national under 19 side, has shown fight with the bat, has played at international level and was a stand out in the first season of the IPL.
Leaving him out of the Indian national side is a disgrace
