GAME 22 - Kings XI Punjab v Kolkata Knight Riders
May 7th 2008 06:47
PUNJAB 6/178 (Marsh 40, Sangakkara 28 - Gul 2/27)
KOLKATA 6/169 (D.Hussey 71, Saha 59no - Pathan 2/18 Sreesanth 2/25)
PUNJAB win by 9 runs
A game that could have gone either way and was dominated by the ball. The Kings XI Punjab batte first and made a respectable 178 - the top scorer was young Australian Shaun Marsh with just 40 - so it was an all round batting effort with lots of batsmen chipping in with 20's. Umar Gul bowled beautifully and must have thought his team was in with a chance.
Kolkata had David Hussey with 71 and Saha with an unbeaten 59 but they still fell 9 runs short of the Punjab total. Not enough support from the other batsman coupled with some terrific bowling from Sreesanth and Pathan were the reasons they failed to win this game.
Kolkata are really struggling now and look to be mired at the bottom of the table. Punjab keep getting better and better and are now the form team in the competition.
